Last week I attended the first Light The World: Birthing Your Destiny Retreat for Christian Women in Zion’s National Park. I wasn’t sure what to expect since there were no graduates, only loving and powerful mentors with a vision.
Do you ever rely on someone else’s vision and promise just because of who they are? I know we aren’t supposed to rely on the arm of flesh, but if your mentor is relying on the arm of God, I think it is appropriate to rely upon their word to start with. I relied upon the word of four powerful, brilliant and spiritual women, Marnie Pehrson, Judy Hansen, Lisa Rae Preston and Jamie Bartschi. They each shared their core passions for business, music, nature, and spiritual growth as well as joyful living.
We were each encouraged and supported to fulfill our own destiny based on our core passion. We laughed, we cried, we puzzled, we learned, we saw greatness in each other and in ourselves. We were humbled by what we saw and experienced. It was a bit of heaven on earth. We each came home with a small transparent stone to remind us of what we are going to do to Light The World.
Does the world need more Light? Yes, I heard your resounding reply. Where is it to be found? In heaven? Probably, but it is also found within you. Within each of us is a touch of the Divine. We are children of God so it cannot be otherwise. Have you denied your Light? Have you covered it up with false beliefs, thinking it is all gone? Here’s the good news. You cannot destroy this Light. It is who you are at your core. You only have two choices:
*Deny it, neglect it and live in the dark.
*Dust it off and SHINE!
Of course, there are lots of variations between those two choices, but you are the one who chooses. When you think of the dark, you create darkness in your life. When you think of light, you create light. It really is that simple and you can flip the switch any time.
There is an old Sunday School song that goes something like this.
This little light of mine
I’m gonna let it shine
Down in my heart
I’m gonna let it shine
Ain’t gonna make it shine
Just gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
This world is in a heap of hurt, but according to divine law, there is more light than darkness. Give yourself permission to let your light shine more brightly than ever before. The world needs your light.
Simple Self-Coaching Tip:
Choose something specific to do to let your light shine and write it down now. A written goal is much more apt to be realized. Suggestions might be to call someone you care about and tell them you are thinking of them. Greet your child or spouse with warmth and affection. There, now make your own list. You know what it takes to make you smile and let your light shine. I have confidence in you. We are lighting the world together.
