My dream business is gardening–gardening of the mind and spirit, that is. This time of year, however, I have spring fever so bad that it is hard to stay in bed long enough to shut my eyes. If I had a choice, I would live in the soft spring dirt. It’s all play to me until it gets cold at night.
Today, was especially fun because my favorite roto-tilling expert came to my rescue for the second day in a row. His name is Marv and he is past 75 years. He just keeps going. He is the equivalent of the roto-tilling bunny. He does the stuff I can’t do and he makes it look easy.
Yesterday Marv tilled the soil. Today we added mulched leaves, a huge bag of peat moss and some turkey manure and Marv went back to tilling it all together. It looked like a giant mix master at work and the soil came out almost as fluffy as meringue ready for your lemon pie. (Maybe you need to be a farmer’s daughter to think like that.)
Gardening the mind and spirit is much like gardening the soil. There is a time to plant and there is a time to harvest and lots of steps in between. Every step it takes to produce your prize watermelon must be followed to make your dreams come true.
I have never produced a prize watermelon, but I could write a whole encyclopedia on how to make dreams come true. I have had my share of bugs, droughts, and storms, but I have also enjoyed fabulous harvests that made it all worth while–a successful marriage of over fifty years, a happy and productive family and a dream business.
The laws are the same, but you can cultivate your mind and spirit when the sun goes down and it’s still cold outside. Day or night you can prepare the soil. Dreaming is the part that breaks up the soil and prepares for the seeds you have carefully chosen. Dream big! What a harvest you will have!
